The
Internet User/Reader Due to the nature of hypertext in an internet environment, an internet reader would expect to assume an “active” role. This is because of the fact that hypertext, has no primary axis of organization, or simply, no centre (Landow). Besides this, hypertext also allows an unrestricted environment that doesn’t lock a reader in a particular organization (Landow). An internet reader who knows that he will be exposed to all these circumstances brought about by the nature of hypertext, would therefore, expect to have the freedom to orient himself, decide his own direction in the course of reading and roam to anywhere he chooses. He doesn’t expect or like to be dictated in his reading journey. This kind of experience (in having an active role) an internet reader expects, is different to the expectations of a book reader. |
