In addition, the very abrupt changes in the text of “The Unknown” caused a
bit of confusion initially. Since there is no relation between texts as
mentioned earlier, I became lost and could not make sense of the plot until, I
got accustomed to the culture of the hyperfiction world. Reading, also became
quite tedious when I had to go back
and forward between the texts after sometime. Later, the realization of the
impossibility to check out every hyperlink really tested my patience and after a
while, I gave up. But, on hindsight and in all fairness, I realized that I as a
reader, could have avoided this “agony” in the first place. I believed that
I would have enjoyed my reading more if I had abandoned my initial rigid
approach (in wanting to cover all grounds) to reading such genre and adopted a
more casual and “touch and go” approach instead. Nevertheless, my experience in reading “The Unknown” was fulfilling despite the troubles I had encountered and I think that my second attempt at it would be more pleasurable. All that is said, hypertext has without doubt, brought about a stir of mixed emotions and certainly, has made reading livelier and more interactive. My advice to potential “hypertext-plorers” is, “ CLICK and see for yourselves.” ---------------------------------------- |
