Audience awareness is important because of the significance in the concept of the audience’s interpretive nature (Fish, 1980). These “interpretive communities” employ strategies to give texts their shape and hence, determine the shape of what is being read according to the way they want to interpret it. Therefore, with such an influential “authority” the readers possess, it is important for writers to know who they are and their expectations. When such valuable information is known, writers can then, target or cater to them by delivering what is expected. This will not only allow writers to achieve better effect in writing but also ensure that they don’t lose their audience. Hence, bearing in mind the importance of audience awareness, the objective of this essay is two-fold. One, to discuss the differences or similarities of the expectations and tastes specifically, between an internet reader and a book reader. Two, to apply these expectations to the way we write in the web environment.
